In my face-to-face classes, I have had students list common misconceptions that Westerners have of Muslims. Some of these misconceptions include:
How could you use the past to help others better understand Islam in the 21st century? More specifically, what evidence could you use from your readings on the early development of Islamic civilization to refute some of those misconceptions? Pick two misconceptions that you plan to counter with evidence. You must use evidence from a primary source. You may refer to the Prophet Muhammad’s Last Sermon, which is in HIST 105 Readings, or selections from the Quran. I have included the selections from the Quran here: Selections from the Quran.docx
Remember to use the Primary Source Analysis Worksheet
to help you navigate the primary sources.
Directions: Each student must have a minimum of 3 posts, one post to the original prompt from the instructor and at least 2 posts in response to other students in the discussion. Remember:
– Use complete sentences, proper grammar, and appropriate language.
– Your original post should be a small paragraph which consists of 3-5 sentences.
– Posts that respond to other students may be more brief.
– Use examples to support your points.
– Cite the course readings you referenced for your response.
