Three examples of plagiarism are intentional plagiarism which is when a person knowingly copies the work of another person and purposefully did not give credit to the author. Unintentional plagiarism involves a person having poor writing and paraphrasing skills (de Souza, 2016). Cheating is known as plagiarism and is when another person takes someone’s work and presents it as their own (LaDuke, 2013).Nursing is a very trusted profession and therefore nurses are meant to provide professional care to members of the community, integrity is essential in this type of work. Poor decision making is led by lack of integrity and dishonesty, this can have poor patient outcomes. I think that since most people who are achieving their baccalaureate degree are full time nurses, time is a big issue. They think cutting corners and copying and pasting will save time. They forget that nursing is a profession passed on integrity and trust, plagiarism can affect their performance and impact EBP created to affect change in patient care (LaDuke, 2013).Things that I will plan to do to ensure my academic integrity when doing work for my BSN is to use plagiarism prevention software like Turnitin, making sure to give credit to each piece of work by citing authors and dates correctly, and for asking for help if I am not sure if it’s a credible source or if I am citing correctly.
