The Project topic should be on a theme, subject, issue, etc. relevant to the topics in the text chapters, articles, videos, etc. you have learned thus far in this course. It should also be on a subject/topic in which you are interested to learn more and would like to investigate further.

Suggested subjects and topics can include, but are not limited to:

• Archaeology – Excavations sites (e.g., Mehrgarh, Pakistan; Agrissa, Greece);
• Neolithic – Domesticated plants (e.g., wheat, rye) or animals (e.g., cattle, sheep), Natufianculture
• Evolution – Creation stories, natural selection, Charles Darwin, George Mendel
• Primates
• Human evolution – Bipedalism, homo sapiens; Neanderthals
• PLEASE CHOOSE ONE OF THESE

There are three components to the Project, which you’ll complete at the completion of this unit.

• Site Visit – Visit to an anthropology or archaeology museum or visit an archaeological excavation site within your local area. The purpose of the site visit is to conduct research and an investigation on your Project topic. For example, if you live in the Washington DC Metropolitan area and your Project topic is on the domestication of plants in the Neolithic, you can visit the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC that has exhibits of thousands of plant and animal species.
• THE GOAL IS FOR THE TUTOR TO HAVE EXPERIENCE AT ONE OF THESE SITES (MUSEUM MOST LIKELY)

  If your Project topic is on archaeology methods, for example, you may want to search your county or local Cultural Resource Management Office websites. These offices have anthropologists and archaeologists on staff working on projects that can tell you of ongoing excavations sites, which you can visit. And if you’re lucky, you may want to spend a few hours as a volunteer digging for artifacts.

• Project Report – Write a 3-5 page report on the highlights of your site visit.
• Project Blog – Create a blog and share your experience of your site visit with other students.
