This week we will be looking at selected artwork shown in major exhibitions the last 20 years. We will listen to two different viewpoints discussing the cultural contributions of traditional art compared to modern and post modern art. Do you think the purposes and intentions of contemporary art changed from traditional western art (the kind you studied in Art History ) ? How are the purposes the same? How are they different? For education majors, this conversation might include a discussion of Core Knowledge curricula. Did anyone go to a Core Knowledge school or have you worked in one?

Cite specific artists, concepts, and social or cultural changes in your answer. Use course readings and personal research on one or two artists in Art 21 or listed in the syllabus to discuss whether there is a similar or d ifferentconceptual framework , skill set, or artistic process now from that in the past.
