Case Study Scenario

Your organization is building a new extranet site. The project manager has resigned, and you have been asked to take over the project and refine the existing cost estimates for the project, so management can evaluate supplier bids and have a solid cost baseline for evaluating project performance. The project schedule goal is six months and cost goal is $200,000.

First Task: Prepare a one-page cost model for the project (use the document below as a guide).

Second Task: Use the cost model you created and prepare a cost baseline by allocating the costs by WBS for each month of the project.

Third Task: Assume you have completed three months of the project. The budget at completion (BAC) was 200,000 for this six months project. Also assume the following:

PV = $ 120,000

EV = $ 100,000

AC = $ 90,000

What is the cost variance, schedule variance, cost performance index (CPI), and schedule performance index (SPI) for the project?
How is the project doing? Is it ahead of the schedule or behind schedule? Is it under budget or over budget?
Use the SPI result to estimate how long it will take to finish this project.
Draw an earned value chart using the above information. See Figure 7-5 in your textbook as a guide

Part 2

For this practice exercise, create a Pareto chart based on the information provided in the table.

First, create a spreadsheet in Excel, using the data in the table below. List the most frequent vulnerabilities first. Your figure should be similar to Figure 8-7 in your text book.
Explain how this Pareto analysis is helpful and what it identifies.
