For many years, instructors have been defining objectives for courses (the objectives for this course were listed in the course syllabus). Newer is the concept of defining course outcomes.
Outcomes are defined as higher level skills that integrate the content and objectives. They represent an overarching understanding and application of a subject that goes beyond the specific course content. In other words, we realize that there are many details of a course that you will forget over the years (or days!) after the course has ended. Outcomes are meant to be what you do remember – what you take away from the course that you can use in other courses and/or in life.
What I would like to hear in this discussion is what YOU think the outcomes of this course will be for you – what you think you will take away from it.
