Guidelines for Review of Literature Paper

III. Determine which areas of the PICO question you will investigate. In the above example, you might look at research articles related to the use of

ice and elevation or you might look at the use of pain medications following a fracture. Limit your search to a specific topic/area. Again be sure to

search with the population in mind.
IV. Locate at least 3 research articles published within the last 5 years in a peer reviewed journal. Access, read, and critique the articles. Please

note: each member of the group should select different articles to review.
V. Write a 3-5 page paper, excluding the title page and references, in APA format, evaluating the selected articles, synthesizing the findings and

determining their usefulness for practice. Please address the following topics in the paper:
A. Introduction includes PICO question/thesis statement. Be sure to begin with an introductory paragraph which introduces and orients the reader to

the topic. Explain the importance of the topic and potential gap which needs to be filled. Specifically state the purpose of the paper. For example:

The purpose of this paper is to
B. Summary of the articles including purpose of study, research method, subjects/participants, findings, and conclusions.
C. Critique of the individual articles. Compare and contrast the articles with each other.
D. Synthesis of findings of the selected articles along with conclusions regarding usefulness for practice
E. Summary and conclusion. Restate the article in a paragraph and draw conclusions based on the analysis of the articles in relation to the topic.
