Part 1….For assignment you are asked to create a presentation relating to training of new and current staff in your student affairs office. There are six areas that must be addressed in your presentation. Be sure that you review the introduction to the week’s assignment as well as the instructions for the assignment.
Part 2….In addition, I want you to provide me a short paper regarding your presentation that includes the following:
Introduction that includes the focus of the presentation and your thesis statement of how you will develop that focus.
Brief Review of the Literature you use in your preparation of the presentation
Conclusion focusing on why this training is important in student affairs
Reference List
This should not be a transcript of your presentation or your script that you use for doing the presentation.
A suggestion for putting together your presentation would be to create a PowerPoint presentation and video you presenting the PowerPoint as though you are leading the training session.
Part 1……Assignment Detail…… Recruiting, hiring, and training of leaders in higher education student affairs are crucial steps to maintaining excellence in the team. How is this done? Who leads the charge? How is it funded? Many of these questions still plague student affairs administrators. We will focus on the training aspect of this important mission.
For staff and administrators in student services to properly support the university and the student, best practices must be employed when working with adult learners, the state and federal regulations, and the expected ethical practices. In this assignment, you will act as the most senior leader in Anytown University, who has been asked to prepare an extensive training session where you explain the laws, regulations, and ethical expectations to your current, and newly hired staff in the student affairs department.

You have the choice of creating a video (using your smartphone, webcam, or choice of video instrument) or audio presentation (using any software that you have available on your computer or phone, or by using freeware from the Internet, such as Audacity). Some video hosting sites to consider (see tutorial in the Books and Resources for the Week) are YouTube, Vimeo, and Screencast.
To earn the best possible grade, demonstrate your professionalism, critical thinking, and presentation (grammar included), which would be the expectation of a senior leader in this scenario. Your professor will be looking for the elements of good presentation as noted above.
