I feel like everyone in executive management wants to be Howard Schultz. That aside, Starbucks is a great brand to study as it is consistently undergoing changes to maintain a dynamically sustainable advantage. One thing that Schultz mentioned in the video is that they are not trying to take over the world, so to speak, but rather they continue to build extensions off of their core business and values. From an innovation standpoint, I think it was important to see the R & D department going to work on the product, finding new ways of enhancing it. While research and development, also can be identified as quality control, might be a business expense, it’s perhaps one of the most valuable. To me, it seems this is why a leadership approach which values and praises innovation, even during events resulting in failure, is so important to the more successful companies who become market leaders.
Any thoughts all?
