RE: Week 6 Discussion 1
The first benefit to having insurance is the safety net should a emergency arise and you would need medical attention. Secondly if you are a parent and your child has a life threating disease many facilities with the exception of St Jude Medical Center would ask you to pay for the treatment up front.
Families normally get insurance through an employer, or they can purchase a private policy.
The difference between HMO and PPO is HMO you need a primary care doctor to over see all your treatment, you are llimited to who that doctor refers you to. PPO gives you the freedom to choose what ever doctor is in the network with your insurance plan.
For the lonest time it was more benefical to have and HMO, however since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act HMO no longer exist.
