As the Ancient World came to a close, the spirit of Antiquity was lost. In Western Europe the centuries that followed the collapse of the Empire was marked by a decline in societal systems, in the economy, in philosophy and in the arts. Please produce an argument either in favor or against the following assertion: “By rediscovering the Ancient World, the Renaissance gave a new impetus to the people of Western and Central Europe; it was because of that ‘rediscovery’ of ancient philosophy, ancient art, and ancient aesthetics in general that the modern world was born.”
