The history of Africa is constantly evolving, and much of what historians now know of ancient Africa has only been discovered fairly recently. Early historians used to refer to Africa as the “dark continent.” First, what are various reasons why a civilization, or in this case an entire continent, could be called “dark?” Second, does this chapter support or challenge the belief that Africa is a “dark continent?” Provide examples to support your answer.
