The moment that captured in Leonardo’s painting “The Last Supper” he chose to depict is just after Christ has announced to the apostles that one of them will betray him. The reasons why the disciples are on the same side of the table was a point of the painting to focus the viewers attention on Christ as the most important figure. Also, it modifies a one-point persepective. The realism techniques that Leonardo used was to carry the present of architectural space into the past of the paintings space.
One of Leonardo’s inventions that surprised me or got me interested was the Mona Lisa painting. The Mona Lisa painting is now the property of the French Republic, and it’s on display at the Louvre Musium in Paris since 1797.
I am no artist but what I think might compare to Leonardo to a figure in the 20th or 21st century would probably be Gerhard Richter. His artwork The Reading kinda reminds me of Leonardo’s paintings but more modern day look.
