Is the Patient Resource Care Coordinator (PCRC) role necessary? Proposed Healthcare Site: St. Joseph’s Healthcare-Hamilton Objectives of Project: To understand what PCRC role is. To understand why this role was created. (I don’t know yet when the role was created). To examine why/how the role has being changed over the years. To understand when/how the guiding processes are applied by PCRC when making decisions. To examine if the guiding processes surrounding the role and the tasks inherent, implemented on the time of role creation, are still suitable for the year 2014. To present recommendations to the changes required to become an essential role. Reason for choice of topic: I’ve being working on the health care system for over a dozen of years and recently found out many hospitals hire PCRCs or evening/night supervisors. I spoke to a manager regarding the role and she stated the PCRC role in her organization become trivial over the years and PCRCs feels they have no room to grow. They feel isolated and as a result important functions/processes have been eroded. The manager believes there are not clear expectations for the role and it became ambiguous. The processes manual has not been updated since the role implementation and it is now located in someone’s desk. She firmly believes the role has to be re-evaluated otherwise the funds will be lost sooner than later. I choose the topic because I would like to learn all about the role and its effectiveness;
