Students will post a PowerPoint or Prezi on an African American politician on Blackboard. You may not choose Martin Luther King, Malcom X, or Barack and Michelle Obama. You must do individual work and upload an individual presentation. You are graded individually. There will be a list from which you must choose. You cannot repeat someone else’s choice.
(1) Read an academic book or scholarly article about your political figure. Summarize and analyze it. SHARE YOUR OWN IDEAS ABOUT THE TOPIC. Write your PowerPoint. You must answer: What was this politician’s political philosophy? Name 3 things we can learn from them about success. 10 minutes.
(2) Assigned reading: You must read a section from the assigned reading from Theodore Allen’s The Invention of the White Race. Summarize and analyze it. Using your creative skills, you must make a connection between The Invention of the White Race and your African American political figure. Each student must prepare at least 5 PowerPoint or Prezi slides for the presentation. These should summarize your main points. Your final slide should be a bibliography. 10 minutes.
