POST 1:
Lobbying and campaigning in social work practice influence the legislative and administrative process in order to achieve the social change. The objective to the social work profession and goas is to seek and expand services to those who are powerless within the government field. It is to increase the recognition of societal and environmental effects on personal wellbeing. Social workers want to change the system as their role is to help others and lead better services. Working towards the target they should be aware that a state consist of many subsystems and that factor outside the system itself can influence its functioning (Mahaffey 1972).
Social workers have positive effects within the system as we build connections and speak to political professions for the people who have no voice. An impact that my colleagues have made on me is that not everyone’s experiences are the same. I have learned to be open minded in certain situations, take everyone’s opinion into considerations and look at the whole story before making assumptions or judgments. I have learned that cultural is a huge part in our profession and everyone’s upbringing effects their behavior.

POST 2:
The role of lobbying or campaigning would take place when a social worker becomes passionate about an issue and takes a stand for change. We have all seen lobbying and campaigning for LGBTQ rights and the right to have a same sex marriage be valued and receive the same benefits of a heterosexual marriage. Lobbying and campaigning takes place when a social issue needs correction. However, social workers roles in campaigning can also have a strategic nature. For instance, in the 1982 congressional and senatorial elections, the National Association of Social Workers, or NASW, raised $130,000 to contribute to candidates nationwide that presented the political stance of working on the betterment of human services programs (Salcido, 1984).
Social workers would have a powerful and positive effect as an elected official because they have human relations skills, they are skilled in networking, and they believe in team building (Salcido, 1984). Social workers are also compassionate, fight for the rights of social justice, and work to improve conditions for vulnerable individuals.
