The United States Federal Budget is very complex but at the same time I do realize that our government is wasteful.  The tough task of stabilizing  the U.S. debt seems almost impossible to me at this point but I also feel that it can happen all without raising taxes or cutting social security and medicare benefits for the elderly.  Using the budget simulator, I was not able to to stabilize the U.S. debt.  I was able to get it down to 70% GDP.  All of the changes that I made were cuts with no additional allowances for new or existing programs.  The biggest cuts in spending came from reduced war funding in Afghanistan and by further reducing discretionary spending which saved over 1.1 billion dollars combined.  Revisiting and making changes to NAFTA would also generate huge tax revenues for the U.S.  The budget cuts that I made would be quite good for a politician running for reelection because of the limited elimination or reduction in budget cuts or tax increases for lower and middle class citizens. The budget simulator is limited as it only allows for changes in spending for a one-year period. Long term problems call for long term solutions and in order to reach for a 60% GDP in the near future, long term cuts and wasteful government spending are what its going to take in order to achieve this.
