I never actually visited an active volcano. I have heard of some of these on the list. I chose mount veniaminof because I saw that it was located in the United States. It may not be the closest to California because it is in Alaska but I still decided to go with this one. Mount veniaminof is a stratovlolcano but also a cinder cone. Cinder cones are smaller volcano with a steep slope angle. The last time that veniaminof erupted was very recent. There was an eruption a few weeks ago and before that in 2013. It is both an explosive type of eruption and lava flow. The explosion could kill people and animals, destroy homes and trees. The thick ash makes it difficult to breath and make it difficult for air travel giving pilots a hard time flying with ash clouds. Volcanic eruptions also have a cooling effect on the climate. I now know that volcanoes are important to earth however it is hard to remember when thinking of all the destruction that is causes.
