In 400 words or so, I’d like you to explain what qualities Philbrick here celebrates as literary, and which ones he celebrates as popular. As you do this, you should come up with some overall statement about where you see the author deciding Moby-Dick fits between those two—in other words, does Philbrick argue we should read it because it’s literary, or because it’s popular?
