As a health education program director/coordinator, you will likely be called upon to supervise/manage staff responsible for implementing your health education programs. In this capacity, you may encounter situations in which members of your team are underperforming. Case Assignment
After viewing the clip and reading Chapter 40, Section 1 of the Community Tool Box (i.e., Achieving and Maintaining Quality Performance), address the following questions in a four-page essay:
Discuss the merits of each of the approaches taken by the manager upon realizing that his employee was underperforming.
- What might the implications of adopting the former approach be for this employee’s performance? Please explain.
- What might the implications of adopting the latter approach be for this employee’s performance? Please explain.
- What are the basic principles of Total Quality Management (TQM)? Which TQM principles seem most relevant to the scenario shown in the video clip? Why?
